Gokwe Town Council has taken delivery off vehicles which are aimed at improving service delivery in the town The Midlands Observer reports.
In an interview with this publication acting Gokwe Town Secretary Joseph Madhlokuwa said council has purchased 2 tipper trucks and 3 smaller vehicles.
“The vehicles are of benefit to the town’s service delivery in that the 2 tipper trucks will be transporting gravel in road construction from whatever point. The trucks will also engage in improving the residential/location roads as much as possible,” he said.
“On the other hand the smaller vehicles will be used for supervisory development as the town council did not have building inspections and development control. The vehicles will be used by the building inspector, planning and engineering technicians as well as the road inspectors,” he said.
Meanwhile, Madhlokuwa said Covid-19 impacted negatively on the operations of council as the local authority collected low revenue.
“Covid-19 negatively impacted on our operations as we could not collect revenue and employers were not coming to work during the covid 19. Revenue collection was down whilst council will be faced with some statutory obligations hence its a big challenge,” he said.
