The Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe in Kwekwe donated money, clothes and food to Chimanimani Cyclone Idai victims earlier this week.
Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe in Kwekwe which covers about 811 churches in Zimbabwe donated food, money and clothes to the Chimanimani Cyclone Idai victims through the Kwekwe District Administration office. The donation are expected to be sent to Gweru to the Provincial Administrator and Minister of State before they are sent to Chimanimani. Meanwhile the District Administration office is looking for a lorry to carry the donations to Gweru.
Kwekwe District Administration officer Fortune Mupungu said that they are very grateful with how the people of Kwekwe are reacting towards this disaster and also added that those who still want to donate the door is still open.
“I am very grateful with the way the people of Kwekwe are reacting towards this disaster in Chimanimani. We are thankful to the churches, NGO’s, local authorities and everyone who has put a hand on this.
“True friends are those who assist in the time of need and as Kwekwe district we have taken the lead. In times like these we need to come together as Zimbabweans. We have nurse aides who are being trained under ministry of health that are going to be sent to Chimanimani to assist, we are only waiting for the green light from the Minister of State,” said Mupungu.
More than 200 people have been killed and dozens are reported missing in parts of eastern Zimbabwe after a tropical cyclone ripped through the country and the most affected area is Chimanimani.
