The love of dangerous and illegal narcotics landed a Mbizo teenager in court recently facing charges of possessing mbanje.
Patrick Siziva (18) who appeared before Kwekwe Magistrate Story Rushambwa facing charges of possessing dagga without a license was sentenced to 12 months in jail and 6 months were suspended on condition of good behavior.
It is the state’s case that on the 28th of October 2018 in Mbizo 7 the accused was found in possession of 0,205kg of dagga by the police who were on patrol.
The dagga was taken to Mbizo Police Station where it was weighed.
The accused told the court that the dagga was not his but the owner of the dagga fled the scene because he knew what was in his satchel.
“l was found in possession of the dagga but the bag was not mine and l didn’t want to smoke it,” he said in his defence.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges. Rushambwa told the court that Siziva had violated Section 25(1) (a) of Dangerous Drugs Act Chapter 15.02 which prohibits possession of dagga without a license.
He further said that the dagga which was found by the police was with Siziva and he was selling dagga to the people in the community which is a dangerous thing.
