ZIFA Central Soccer League (CSL) promotion race has taken a twist following the dislocation of army side Tongogara from the summit by Joel Lupahla side Tel One.
The Gweru based side with 31 points is now perched on the summit after thumping Black Eagles FC 3-1 extending a 2 point lead from Tongogara.
Meanwhile, other title contenders ZPC Munyati and Hwahwa are now sitting on third and fourth places respectively.
Tendai Chikuni’s charges from Munyati have a game in hand after their fixture with Vumbachikwe failed to take place over the weekend.
Vhumba had a break down on their way to Munyati.
Meanwhile, Tongogara and MSU’s match ended in a stalemate after both teams only found the back of the net once.
Luke Petro’s side Whawha has been enjoying the top spot for the greater part of the season.
They were however defeated by Ivan Hoe who has found winning formula under the stewardship of Isaac Nyabvure.
The race for promotion is still wide open with five games to be played.
Whawha will square off against relegation threatened Black Eagles this weekend as they aim to bounce back to winning in order to mount pressure on log leaders Tel one who host MSU at Ascot stadium.
Luke Petros told this publication that he was disappointed with heavy loss they suffered but it was too soon to start panicking as the race is still open.
“It’s disappointing to drop all the points but we still confident of landing the promotion place despite suffering a setback at the weekend,” he said.
Tongogara will battle Lesaffre at the Battlefields while ZPC Munyati will be away to Sheasham who are also mathematically still in the race for promotion although it is a tough ask for the Gweru side.
