Soldier nabbed for stealing groceries from OK retail shop

A soldier was recently nabbed for stealing an assortment of groceries at OK Supermarket this publication reports.

Appearing before Kwekwe Magistrate Florence Nago, Tichaona Mugadza (31) pleaded guilty to the charge arguing that he wanted to surprise his wife with, “more groceries.”

He was orderered to pay a fine of 5310RTGS or risked a 3months jail term for theft.

It is the State’s Case that Mugadza on the 18th of November around 16:30 entered OK Supermarket and took groceries worth 5712,78 RTGS and proceeded to the exit door without paying.

 Upon reaching the exit door Lloyd Ncube (28) who is employed as a guard checked the accused receipt and he then discovered that the items on the receipt did not match with those that were in the trolley.

The complainant also discovered the receipt was already checked and the time of purchase was 15:10 hours which was an hour earlier than the time he was checking out. 

The groceries which were stolen included sona bathing soap, boom washing powder, cooking oil, sugar among others.

The stolen property was recovered.

In his defense the accused told the court that he wanted to surprise his wife with a lot of groceries.

“ l wanted to surprise my wife,” said Mugadza.

He went on to say that when he bought the first list of groceries he was accompanied by his wife.

“ When I came to buy the first list of groceries I was with my wife,”  Mugadza told the court.

  “ I then later on came alone to add more to the list we had bought,” he said.
