A request to government by Kwekwe City Council to review the road fund as the current amount is not adequate to resurface the city’s road network has been turned down with government insisting that the local authority must find ways to raise funds.
Mayor Angeline Kasipo in a recent engagement with residents said the city had approached Local Government July Moyo seeking for an increase in the funds a request which was turned down.
“We went to see Minister July Moyo concerning the issue of the road fund from ZINARA which is not enough to mend our roads since many of them are over aged.
“The ministry of Local Governance turned us down and they insisted that the council should find ways to make more funds for the roads,” Kasipo said.
Kasipo said the road network was in a terrible state.
“Our roads are full of potholes and we tried to put patches but the roads are over aged and need new ones,”she added.
She confirmed that the council have bought more tar for new roads and have launched a regular pothole patching.
“We are going to do everything in our power to eradicate potholes in the City and we have placed regular pothole patching program in the city we also haven’t forgotten areas like City to Amaveni road and City to Mbizo via Hospital road.”
