Zvishavane MP Dumezweni Mawite has been undertaking philanthropic activities in his constituency, feeding the vulnerable who are struggling to make ends meet.
The law maker told this publication that from his campaign messages he is using his salary to feed the vulnerable people in the constituency. Most people in Zvishavane have been hard pressed following the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.
The situation was worsened by the government imposed lockdowns which were increased in a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“Realising that Covid-19 has taken its toll to families I decided to assist with food hampers. Most of these people they don’t have any source of income hence the need to assist them. Funds were raised through donations and the salary I promised to give back to the community,” he said.
Recently Mawite donated food hampers in the constituency.
“I donated food hampers to 500 vulnerable families mostly old age in Zvishavane urban. The hampers had 10kg roller meal, 2kg sugar beans, 2lts cooking and green bar soap. I also donated infrared thermometers and sanitizers to some schools as they prepare to re-open,” he said.
