MDC Alliance Midlands provincial youth chairperson Sekai Marashe, Councillor Ndlovu and an activist Maysen Ndlovu were on Tuesday picked up for questioning by police in Kwekwe.
Whilst Midlands Police Provincial Spokerperson Joel Goko said he was yet to get the report on the arrest of the MDC Alliance national youth Spokerperson Sarkozy Chuma confirmed that the trio had indeed been picked by police.
“Sekai ‘Muchaina’Marashe, two more MDC Alliance members, Maysen Moyo and Clr Ndlovu have been illegally arrested,” Chuma said.
The youthful politician claimed the arrests are an attempt by government to clamp down on dissent ahead of the planned protests against the government later this month.
Meanwhile, MDC Alliance Midlands provincial spokesperson Takavafira Zhou in confirming the arrests said that the arrests followed weekend skirmishes over the MDC office in Kwekwe.
Youths aligned to MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa weekend foiled attempts by the Thokozani Khupe faction to take over the MDC party offices in Kwekwe.
“There is no crime but they are accused of having sent people to defend MDC Alliance office in Kwekwe that the Khupe cabal reportedly wanted to seize over the weekend. So she (Marashe) is accused of having sent people to beat other people but in reality it seems to a well choreographed plan to arrest MDC Alliance youth leaders for fear that they may mobilise youths for 31 July National strike. Remember in Masvingo police has also arrested the National MDCA youth organ Kura,” Zhou said.
