The Ministry of Public Service and Social Welfare is currently assisting people with disabilities in Kwekwe District.

The district is currently donating 50 kg of maize meal to the vulnerable members of the community.

“We are glad that we were able to assist by donating some maize to people living with disabilities so that they could sustain themselves during this COVID19 era,” said district government spokesperson Innocent Munyaradzi.

Communities that were assisted include Torwood, Redcliff, Silobela, Amaveni and Zhombe rural wards.

“We managed to give Zhombe rural wards, Amaveni, Redcliff, silobela and Torwood to all registered disabled people in that area, “he added.

Munyaradzi said the military is assisting by providing transport to ferry maize to all parts of the district.

Nationally over 7 million people are currently food insecure- people are faced with food shortages as a result of recurrent droughts.
