Learners, women encouraged to take up karate

Learners in schools and women must participate in karate, Kwekwe Karate Shotokan College of open hand Sensei Shepherd Ziwira has said.

Ziwira’s encouragement comes at a time when reception of the sport is appearing to be low in Midlands’ schools.

The Karate master has taken it upon himself to advertise the sport in schools.

“Karate is still not popular in Midlands’s schools and I urge schools to embrace the sport,” he said.

“I have embarked on distributing fliers in schools to at least lure students to join,” he said.

Ziwira said the sport helps in instilling discipline in learners.

“Unlike other sports karate can be used as a yardstick for morality and discipline which is essential for any student,” Ziwira said.

He has also encouraged women to join.

Women according to sport experts have proven to be exceptionally talented in sports than men.

Ziwira is in agreement with the assertion.

“Women are exceptionally good in karate opposed to men hence they should join the sport,” he said

The biggest barrier to women participation is marriage as most spouses disregard their wives participating in Karate

“The challenge with the girl child is marriage this is why we have a low number of women taking up the sport. It is my plea that men should encourage their wives to take up the sport,” reiterated Ziwira.
