Government is assisting with the burial of 12 people who perished in a road accident which occurred in the early hours of Sunday at a 232 km peg along Harare-Bulawayo Highway.
The tragedy occurred after two buses Mandeep Tours and Goversberg Bus Coaches were involved in a head-on collision just near Kwekwe River.
Government is going to disburse $12000 towards burial arrangements and also covering for the medical expenses of the 43 injured who were admitted at Kwekwe General Hospital.
Senior government officials have revealed that 35 have so far been discharged at the hospital whilst eight are still undergoing treatment.
Kwekwe Assistant District Administrator Clemence Muduma said the District Civil Protection Unit (CPU) is assisting the bereaved family members by covering up their burial expenses and medical expenses.
“$12000 has been set aside to cater for the burial expenses and every bereaved family will receive $1000 to cover the burial expenses,” he told a CPU meeting on Wednesday this week.
Meanwhile, the Insurance Council of Zimbabwe (ICZ) has tasked the Kwekwe Doves Funeral services to provide free services for the bereaved.
“The ICZ has tasked Doves to provide it services to the bereaved families,” said Muduma.
Muduma further added that The CPU will also cater for the medical expenses of the injured.
“43 were admitted at the hospital, 35 have been discharged and 8 are still being attended to,” read the report presented by Muduma.
“We will also cater for the medical expenses of those injured who are currently hospitalized at Kwekwe general hospital,” he said.
