Two Mbizo women have appeared before Kwekwe magistrate Vimbai Mtukwa facing theft charges.

Patience Mutava (22) and Lisa Tongogara (22) are standing accused of stealing mobile phones at King Solomon Hotel.

The duo pleaded guilty to the charges.

In mitigation they stated that economic challenges forced them to stealing Kelvin Zepi’s mobile phone Samsung J7 worth $700.

It is the state case that the duo was drinking beer with Zepi in the hotel bar.

Zepi got drunk and fell asleep leading to the two taking advantage of his drunken stupor and connived to steal his phone.

The accused then sold the mobile phone to Fedelis Matombo in Gweru.

The phone was then traced to Matombo who sold out the duo upon interrogation.

Mutava told the court she committed the act so as to raise money towards preparation for her unborn child.

“I stole the phone because l wanted money to fund for my unborn baby preparation as l am 8 months pregnant and my boyfriend denied his responsibilities,” pleaded Mutava.

Tongogara said economic challenges led to commit the crime.

“Money pressure led me to find myself in this predicament l had no solid reason for such a foolish act, but it is all the desire for money hunger,” she said.

Mutukwa sentenced the duo to a wholly suspended seven months prison term in the event they do not commit the same offence in the next five years.
