MDC youth league national spokesperson Brian Dube has said party leader Nelson Chamisa is the party’s only best choice for Presidency but has however indicated that divergent views are allowed in the opposition party.
The run up to the MDC’s May elective indaba has seen the militant youth wing going all ballistic and declaring an enemy anyone who dares challenge the 41 year old opposition leader.
So internecine is the fight to control the opposition party between Chamisa and his longtime nemesis Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora that animosity between rival factions has been renewed.
The deadly fights between the factions have seen Mwonzora’s camp fighting tooth and nail to block MDC rebel returnees in the form of former Secretary Generals Tendai Biti and Welshman Ncube to contest at the congress.
Dube said anyone blocking the returnees and other alliance partners to contest for positions at the party’s elective Congress is fighting the legacy of founding party leader Morgan Tsvangirai.
The former premier who passed on in February last year during the run up to 2018 national plebiscite forged an alliance with his former cdes who had broken ties with him.
“The Alliance is a legacy which was left to us by our founding party leader Morgan Tsvangirai and we will preserve it. Those against the alliance are against the ideals, values and principles of the MDC,” Dube a lawyer by profession said.
Speaking of those who are angling to block Biti and Ncube from contesting at the congress he emphasized, “What Morgan put together, no one can put asunder.”
The parliamentarian for Gweru Urban said divergent views on the present political dynamics are allowed.
“No one must be expelled. The party I’d a big tent and a democratic party and allows divergent views,” he said.
Chamisa has since indicated that all the positions at the party are up for contestation during the congress.
Dube has however maintained that Chamisa is the only choice for the party’s presidency.
“The MDF congress is not about positions but propositions. As far as I am concerned president Chamisa is the most popular politician in Zimbabwe and the most loved leader in the MDC. President Chamisa is the only anf best chance that we have as a party and I have no doubt his mandate will be extended in May to lead us into a new Zimbabwe,” Dube said.
