A Chicago family was recently put at risk after grenades were discovered at their home in Hillandel area, Kwekwe.
According to sources who spoke to The Midlands Observer on condition of anonymity the incident happened last week when children discovered one grenade in the garden.
“The grenade was discovered by a small child whilst playing. The child oblivious of the danger took the grenade into the house before adults at the house noticed that it was a grenade.
It is by God’s grace that the child did not trigger the safety pin others we could have been talking about something else,” said the source who begged this publication not to reveal their identity in fear of being victimized.
It is said when the family noticed the imminent danger they were exposed to they contacted the police who refered the matter to the Zimbabwe National Army. It is said the army then brought in metal detectors searching the yard and they discovered other explosives.
When contacted for comment ZNA spokesperson Colonel Overson Mugwisi said he was not aware of the incident.
“I am not aware of the incident,” he said.
