Four people died whilst 13 others were seriously injured when a Zhombe bound commuter omnibus burst its front tyre veered off the road and overturned.
Unconfirmed reports has it that two died upon admission at Kwekwe General Hospital were the injured had been ferried.
Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson Joel Goko confirmed the death of the four.
“We have received reports concerning the accident which happened at Tigger Reef and we heard that four people died on the spot and the other 13 were rushed to Kwekwe general hospital because they were badly injured,” Goko said.
He however indicated that he was yet to receive reports of those who had died at Kwekwe General Hospital.
“I am yet to get reports of those who died upon submission at Kwekwe General Hospital,” he said.
The Police boss advised drivers to exercise caution.
“I advice all drivers to be careful while driving because it’s just hard to lose someone in a car accident,” he said.
An eye witness told the Midlands Observer that the Kombi was on a high speed chase with another Zhombe bound kombi before the tragedy.
“The kombi was on a high speed chase with another one which was also bound for Zhombe. Our vehicle was trailing the kombi from behind,” he said.
The witness added that the speeding kombi then burst its front tyre before veering off the road and overturned.
