A group of armed soldiers numbering at least 30 in a truck descended in Kwekwe in a random search operation.

The soldiers it is said descended on revelers who were enjoying their night at Queens Sport Club on Friday night where they ordered everyone to go out to their cars and started searching and dismissing them.

They allegedly moved to the densely populated Amaveni suburb where they allegedly started assaulting imbibers at drinking spots, searching them for dangerous weapons.

The area which has recently gained popularity for wild machete attacks became a random target for the armed soldiers on Friday night.

According to witnesses at the scuffle at Amaveni Shops the soldiers arrived and ordered imbibers to sit down before they searched them.

Similar reports were reported in Mbizo were it is said people were assaulted for walking around at night.

Efforts by this publication to get a comment from the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Spokesperson Colonel Overson Mugwisi proved futile as he said he was busy and would call shortly.

Ouestions sent to him to solicit a response were not answered by the time of going to print.
