Gweru -Police here have launched a manhunt for three robbers who allegedly carjacked, stabbed stripped naked a Zvishavane motorist whom they left stranded along the Gweru-Zvishavane highway.
The victim Rangarirai Chipunza(30) from Makusha was said to be driving from Zvishavane to Gweru in a blue Nissan Sylphy after the three assailants stopped him asking for a lift to Gweru.
Along the way near the flamingo tollgate in Gweru one of the unknown suspects asked for recess and Chipunza pulled over at the same moment one of the suspects grabbed Chipunza by neck and forced him out of the car.
In an attempt to try fight them off the victim was stabbed on the face under the left eye with a knife and on the left hand after he refused to cooperate.
The three then ordered Chipunza to hand over the car keys and surrender all his belongings which include two cell phones .US$40 , $70 bond notes, identity card and banks cards before stripping him naked and speeding off in his car.
However a police report confirmed the case on the 11th of September 2018 on a report of robbery which was received from one Ranagarirai Chipunza from Mukusha in Zvishavane after being carjacked at around 1900hrs near the Flamingo tollgate.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Spokesperson Detective Inspector Portia Chinho said cases of hijacking have been on the rise recently in the country with the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) warning motorist to be diligent with their vehicles.
“Police would like to urge all motorist to exercise due diligence and ensure that their vehicle are well secured with all alarm systems to help in tracking down stolen motor vehicles,” she said.
